Escape
For commuters, transport becomes a place in which you are obligated to be in a vehicle for a certain amount of time, every day. While we often think of transportation as a way to travel towards a destination, in some ways it's also travel away from something—an escape. You are physically escaping, but also often mentally escaping too.
The term "escapism" refers to sort of the daydreaming or fantasizing that we do to escape the banality of everyday life. Escape is both physical and digital, and connotes both a desire to remove oneself and a surrealist aestheticism.
This series of images are a result of photo manipulations exploring the idea of “ESCAPE” in transportation. The primary source images were taken on my journey in and around public transportation vehicles in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, while superimposed clouds were taken from various photographs I took while visiting other places.
